for the past week i've been working on getting my financial aid done for this smester so i can pay the remainding ammount and get started on my financial aid for the following smemster. monday was the day i had set to turn in all the paperwork. well monday comes, and i head to class. im having a pretty good day, although i was missing a few part of the paperwork. My art project, that had been looming over my head like a raincloud, got finished and i was headed out the door straigt for home ot get that last bit of paperwork.
it was a beautiful day out, super sunny with anice breeze. i left my coat off and hung it on my backpack. there was noone on the sidewalk at all because most classes were still in process, so i had the whole sidewalk to myself. while walking around the scince building i noticed my coat was missing. i had only been walking for two munites, so i figured i would go back and pick it up off the sidewalk. as i turned around and headed back around the corner, my coat was gone! i thought, "oh well, i didnt really like the color of that coat anyways, i hope the person who took it needed it." and then i thougt "uh oh, my car keys were in my coat pocket." and then i thougt "my parents are going to kill me." i stopped in at every building and asked if they had a lost and found, and if they had seen my coat, i walked around for four hours looking for it...no coat, no keys, i'm dead.
i realized that since i was so busy looking for my car keys i had overlooked the fact that i was now unable to turn in my financial aid paperwork. it was useless to even think about having my financial aid done since i was stranded at the school. lucky me, i dont lock my car...ever. i could still access everything in my car...score! sicne it was a monday, I had InterVarsity that evening, and it started at 5, i had invited Theo to come along, and to my luck he was coming. Which meant that not only could we hang out, but i had a ride home:) i was super exhausted from walking all over so i took a small nap in my car, and then it was off to IV with Theo. we got icecream afterwards, and it was a nice break from the crazyness...things seemed to be looking up...
then it was tuesday...the first mistake i made was waking up
finacial aide paperwork was due, and i had no car to get to school.
i needed to call some auto place to make me a new key and apparently it takes a few days to make it, and then they have to go to your car and program it to your car...and then as i understand you pay them an arm and a leg. so a few days without my car...hmmm..who can i use for a taxi?? got it: Kayla...done
so now i need my financial aid paperwork...one needs to be printed out from online and costs $12.00 with a credit card. i dont have a credit card, so i ask my mom to use hers and we begin the process. I print out the form and then i need a secod form that can only be gotten from a lady in nekoosa. so my dad calls her and she send him a pdf file, which i in turn print it out. easy peasy lemon squeezey. so now its time to call that auto palce and get things rolling onthat key buisness. i cleverly wrote down my VIN number so i didnt have to go back up to stevens pioint to get taht information. the guy on the phone asks for my VIN number and title owner, and my lisence plate number...dang. I didnt have my lisence plate number and my car is in stevens point. Now what? i call my dad and we look to see if it is onthe insurance papers or online...nothing, well that will have to wait until later then i suppose. becuase of these minor set backs i miss two of my classes, but i head to school to make it to my last one.
Kayla kindly drove meto school, and we stopped by may car to get the lisence plate number so i could call that guy right away.
FLASHBACK(at home, on the way out the door): i put on a light hoodie, but realized it was super windy out, so i decided to change into my summer coat(not the one i had lost). i had my phone in my pocket and i took it out and set it on my bed and i thought "cant forget my phone, of all the days i need it, today would be the one"...i put on my other coat and im called upstairs...i go upstairs and we leave...the phone was still on my bed....
well, i guess i wont be calling that guy today...which means more wasted time. then i get dropped off at the financial ade department to go get things all settled....i get there and im missing a parents signature. oh, come off it! really? i needed one of my parents to sign a document, and i had no phone to contact them. i use the receptionists phone and i call my moms cell phone...dead...i call the church...no answer..finally i call my dad, and he answers and he doesnt have a fax machine, so he said hell make it into a pdf and send it out. i log into a computer and wait for the paper...mind you if i dont get this financial aid all settled i have to take out a second loan for school...not a good situation...
i am waiting for 20 minutes, and the lady seemed to be getting a little imaptient...i email my mom and she ends up noticing that signatures are missing on another form, so she signed that and got that all squared away...my dad sent the paper signed and said this "You have no idea what it took to get this. The copier on the first floor keeps jamming and is about to break and the second copier on the third floor died so everyone in the entire pulp mill is using the same copier right outside my office door. The thing has not stopped running for almost an hour now."
wow. difficulties! so i hesitantly turn in the paper to the lady, waiting for another snag in the operation...she looks over it and says "thanks, youll get an email when its done being processed"
thank the lord, i was out of that office like a rocket launching into space...so now i sit here at school waiting to got to class, and now i jsut got news that my sister is coming to pick me up, and she has a key(aka an answer to prayer)
life gets complicated...oh well.

Power tools, can't live with 'em and you can't live...er...with 'em
"OMG! A woodshop class! I definitely need to get myself put in one of those...no....TWO of those!"
Seriously, I walk into that room everyday and fear for my life...it’s basically death waiting to happen, with wood being thrown all over and saws flying around, and blades and motors screaming "don’t touch me, or you'll die!"
seriously, they say that, it’s a new feature to warn students of the dangers of the machinery...but I guess I’m a "big kid" now so I’m allowed to use and operate these things(without any supervision, mind you!)
usually I’m the person who takes orders from the sawing person...I’m the tool gopher ..."hey Rachel can you get me some nails" "hey Rachel can you get me the hammer" "hey Rachel can you hand me that wrench, and while you’re at it, you can just go home cuz you're basically useless" yeah, I guess it’s time I hone my woodworking skills...
So aside from being utterly terrified of my woods class, I have...
Okay,
I can't think of anything but my woods class, it’s so SCARY...you guys don't even know!...
I guess if I do chop my hand off, I can just go for the whole Captain Hook look, I hear thats in style these days...

You know you're bored when you're Posting on your blog
So today...no lets back up
Um...the beginning of this semester
yes yes,
okay...
So, this semester started with a bunch of nerves...I was nervous for everything! Like:
What if I’m late?
What if I drive off the road on the way there?
What if I have something in my teeth?
Will my teachers like me? Will I meet really weird people?
I hope they have a bathroom near every room...just in case.
What if I trip in the hallway?
I wonder if my shoes are as cool as I think they are...
So aside from every day college concerns school is pretty nifty...it’s definitely different than high school!! People are free to do whatever they want!
Seriously, I could get up and walk out of class whenever I felt like it! And I could skip class altogether if I really wanted to, of course I wouldn’t do that! I think the freedom is nice, but sometimes it’s easy to abuse the freedom if we don’t handle it correctly. But, I’m pretty sure I’m doing well :)
So classes...
Yeah
Let’s not talk about those
So lunch...I eat food for lunch...and it’s yummy :)
And as for down time
I have a ton of free time in between classes
so between classes I can do basically anything I want...I usually go to a practice room and play the piano for a while...which, side note, I’m not sure if I’m even supposed to be there or not because I’m not enrolled in the music department. I just pretend I know what I’m doing and that I am allowed to be there, and no one knows the difference...
Also I read books...and such, and that about it...oh and I stalk people on facebook:)
So here i am at college, living the dream...
ps. it’s actually a nightmare
Jkjk
Hopefully ill update more often,
Rachel

So, i got this e-mail...
This Rapper guy e-mails me his song, and I listened to it, and it basically ROCKS! I'm not gonna lie, he sounds like Lecrae:) his name is Pro, i don't know if those are his initials or what, but his music is great! listen to it!
This is what he has to say:
In today's society, Jesus is portrayed as so many things. Often he is seen so much less than what he is...King! The heart behind the song “Bow Down” is to refocus everyone on the majesty of Christ. We must fight to see him bigger, better, and greater than anything we could ever imagine, even ourselves.

revolution?...why not?
The term “revolution” can change and has changed the world. This specific word encompasses the determination, power, struggle, passion, and beliefs of men who wanted to change the way their world turned. This term means only that there is a “radical change” in something, and can be applied to basically any situation ().A revolution happens when a group of many people voice the same opinion in order to change something around them. Revolutions, big and small, are going on all around us. According to Thomas Jefferson “Every generation needs a new revolution.”(). Revolutions are not for the faint of heart, or people who sit on the side lines and watch it take place; they require active and involved people with real desire and passion in their heart to see a change in something. The idea of a Revolution has specific characteristics that set it apart from any other term in its class, it is used to strongly describe change, and although it is very different than any other term in its class it has many similar characteristics with them as well.
A revolution has multiple characteristics, but in whole it can be related to a movement of some sort. Revolutions are usually major events that would be nationally or globally recognized. Revolutions require a large group of people to carry out the movement. People involved in a revolution often use persuasion to create change, and can become violent if the people involved are determined to see the change. All of these characteristics create a change in beliefs and ideas, and become a movement of sorts.
A revolution does not occur if there is no real desire for change; every revolution has a specific purpose in mind. Whether it’s a change in the economy, or change in minimum wage, a revolution can have basically any belief at the root of it, as long as there are a large number of participants, and they all have a strong desire for that specific change. In America there is free speech, we have the privilege to have a revolution any time, any day. But all people do is talk about, and wish for, change without putting forth any effort or action. A revolution requires action. If America really wanted change they would start a revolution, instead of only talking about it.
Revolution has similar characteristics to others in its class. Some words that are similar to revolution are: mutiny, rebellion, revolt, and outbreak. These words all fit into the idea of a revolution. A revolution can be a mutiny, if the oppressors refuse to cave in to the desires of the revolutionaries. A revolution can also be considered a rebellion because it is a cross current idea. It takes a person with strong beliefs to stand out of the crowd and become a revolutionary. In order to be a part of a revolution you have to revolt, in some way you are revolting against a belief or idea you do not believe in or agree with. A revolution causes in outbreak of more and more revolutionaries, once one person is brave enough to stand up for what they believe in, others who were previously too afraid to say anything, will join, and become confident enough to speak out as well.
The idea of a revolution has become a lesser deal than it used to be. Revolutions are not for weak minded people who sit the fence, but rather for the bravest of men who are not afraid to be themselves and speak their minds. This term can be related to other terms that fit into the idea of a movement, and it affects and challenges nations and their authority. Don’t underestimate the power of a revolution, and don’t be afraid to stand up and speak out.

DO HARD THINGS!...Expecting Expectations
When you think of teenagers, I’m sure the idea of high expectations isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. In fact, those words might be considered oxymoronic. Why do we think that way? Is it because 70 percent of all teens drink alcohol on a regular basis? (SSTDD) Is it possibly because each year over 750,000 teenage women become pregnant, because over half of our nations teenage population is sexually active? (FATSRH) The term “Teenager” could also be slandered by the fact that 42.3 percent of all high school seniors have used marijuana on a regular basis (BJSDCF). Maybe teenagers are considered trouble makers because 40 percent of all youth in America belong to a gang (VPI).Why are these statistics so high? What possesses teenagers to indulge in fruitless activities that can lead to lifelong consequences and permanent damage? It’s simple: society. This list of statistics is what society expects from teenagers. Our media lives and breathes our nation’s youth and will do anything to appeal to young adults and teenagers. So, they emphasize these topics more than others. Our schools set low expectations so we, as teenagers, can feel good about ourselves. Our home life is the epitome of low expectations because mom and dad are never around enough to encourage us to do more than we think we are capable of. Society expects nothing from teenagers except trouble, so that’s the expectation we’ve arrived at: trouble. Teenagers, in history, have changed our world by rising to higher expectations. Since the creation of the word “teenager” society has taught students to be lazy and unproductive, but it’s not hard for teenagers to raise their expectations and go cross-current.
You might think that the stages of life always went like this: we were born and grew from infant to toddler, toddler to child, child to teenager, teenager to young adult, and young adult to a grown up. The truth is that the word “teenager” never even existed 70 years ago. The word was conjured up in the late 1920’s to describe risqué fashion trends or bad behavior, but the word itself wasn’t even published until 1941. It showed up for this first time in a Readers Digest article (Harris 29) So what were “teenagers” called before that? They were called adults. Fredric Heer, a history professor, wrote about the transition we undertake after childhood. “Around 1800 young people of both sexes could reckon on being considered adults as soon as the outward signs of puberty made their appearance…a profession was possible at the age of fifteen or sixteen” (Harris 30). Teenagers in the past were considered adults.
George Washington was not known for his brains as a child. He was no good at anything that was school related. His friends noticed this and didn’t think he was the sharpest tool in the shed. Despite the loss of his father, and the difficulty of learning, he strove for higher expectations than even his own mother had for him. George Washington worked so hard that by age seventeen he was flawless at geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and calculus. At age seventeen he became a surveyor of unmapped territories, and charted new lands (Harris 31).
Most of you have probably never heard of David Farragut, but his story is equally inspirational. David was born in 1801 and at only ten years old, he was serving on a warship. By the time he was twelve he had command of his own ship that he helped capture in battle! David grew up to be in the US Navy, not a big surprise (Harris 31).
Have you ever heard of the Salvation Army? The founder of this organization was a teenager.
America in so Many Words is a book that dedicates itself to word origins wrote a little bit about the word teenager, and what it means to our society: “In the first part of the twentieth century, we made a startling discovery. There were teenagers among us! Until then, we had thought of people in just two stages: children and adults” (Barnhart 233). isn’t it interesting that before 1941 teenagers were expected to act like adults, but after we created a term that allows some leeway, all of sudden the expectations have slowly been declining, further and further. “Society doesn’t expect much of anything from young people during their teen years-except trouble (Harris 36).”
At a San Francisco elementary school, an experiment was conducted by a Harvard University professor, Robert Rosenthal, and an elementary school principal Leonore Jacobson:
“In the experiment, Rosenthal and Jacobson gave an intelligence test to all of the students at an elementary school at the beginning of the school year…they randomly selected 20 percent of the students - without any relation to their test results - and reported to the teachers that these 20% of students were showing "unusual potential for intellectual growth" and could be expected to "bloom" in their academic performance by the end of the year. Eight months later…they came back and re-tested all the students. Those labeled as "intelligent" children showed significantly greater increase in the new tests than the other children who were not singled out for the teachers' attention.” (HESM)
These results clearly show that students are capable to rise to whatever expectation that is set before them. At the end of the experiment they wrote a book about it called Pygmalion in the Classroom. It touches on the topics of students expectations, and how teachers play a big role in how well these students succeed. After the experiment they concluded that: “the change in the teachers' expectations regarding the intellectual performance of these allegedly 'special' children had led to an actual change in the intellectual performance of these randomly selected children.”(Rosenthal 47) They did the same test at a college in Portland, Oregon, and got the same results (Harris 40). Teenagers can have more expected from them than most would assume. An article on About.com talks about teens and their level of expectations.
There is hope for the “teenage” condition. When students hear the word teenager, they can get wrapped up in the idea that a passive and apathetic lifestyle is acceptable. There are some youth among us who are choosing to have a more industrious life for themselves. Zach Hunter was only fifteen years old when he started a “loose change to loosen chains” at his school. This school project collected money to essentially free modern-day-slaves in foreign countries (Hunter). The project got bigger than he expected, and eventually went nationally. He has spoken at conventions, and concerts, and even at the white house. It’s even more amazing because he has an anxiety disorder (Harris 188)!
Meet Alex and Brett Harris. They are seventeen year old twin brothers, and have launched the largest blog on blogspot.com. the blog focused on “a teenage rebellion of low expectations” It was so big that they had to put in on a website. This website was started by teens for teens, even the website designer was a teenager (Harris 22). Their promotion manager, Heidi, was the only adult, at the age of twenty-four. At the end of the new website launch they actually met Heidi face to face and found out the she was only a seventeen year old girl. They wrote this:
“Our first reaction was this, Oh man, I can’t believe we asked so much of her! Then we caught ourselves. Wait a second! We thought she was twenty-fur, so we had expected her to be responsible as if she were twenty-four, and she rose to meet those expectations and acted like she was twenty-four.”(Harris 20)
It’s true, students can achieve a more successful and productive way of life. Many student s have read the book Do Hard Things, written by Alex and Brett Harris, and have come to realize that they are able to do more than society has come to expect. Brittany is a seventeen year old, who has learned that the word expectation is not a synonym for boring: “Who ever said that doing hard things isn’t fun?! On the contrary. I feel I missed out by not aiming toward more hard things. You’ll find more joy in doing [hard things] …than a trip to the mall or a night at the movies will ever bring.”
There are simple things a teenager can do in order to raise their expectations.. In the book Do Hard Things, Alex and Brett give teenagers a few pointers about how to go about doing so:
“Three strategies for stepping higher:1. Do what is hard for you.2. Be known for what you do (more than for what you don’t).3. Pursue excellence, not excuses. (Harris 92)”
This advice is easier said than done when the world is telling you to do something different. When the authors, Alex and Brett, say to “do what is hard for you” they mean to do something that you would never usually find yourself doing. If you’re shy, jump out of your comfort t zone and talk to someone you’ve never talked to before. If you know of a bully, and are too scared to step into a fight, do it, step in. They explain that doing hard things, though, doesn’t always have a positive outcome. If you step into a fight, the bully will just start beating you up too. And if you talk to someone you’ve never talked to before, they might not be welcoming to conversation.
Their second point is just saying that you should do something! Too often we are recognized for what we are not doing. Joe’s the guy who doesn’t do his homework. Sara’s the girl who doesn’t respect her parents. Frank doesn’t talk to people below his “social status.” Alex and Brett say to flip those around. So, Joe will now be the guy who spends hours on his homework until he knows he has done his best. Sara will be the girl who treats her parents like they’re the most important thing in the world. And Frank will be known as the friendliest guy in school.
Their third and final point that they make is that we should “pursue excellence, not excuses.” Too often, in our culture, we become comfortable with the way things are. An example Alex and Brett use in the book is the story of a high school girl. She did nothing in class but the bare minimum, but because she didn’t fool around in class and turned in her homework, she got the “celebration of excellence for leadership award” (Harris 101) this is a good example of our school’s low expectations. Just because you get rewarded for what you do always challenge yourself. Don’t be okay with the way things are, always push to be better.
Teenagers can be world-changers if they would step out of the mold society has built for them, and pursue the best they can be. There are teens all over the nation who have already started to change their level of expectations. And it’s about time we jump on board with them. It’s quite humorous to me that many professionals tell parents of teenagers that their kids are not responsible or capable or dependable, so just deal with them the best you can while you have them, and when they become adults, that’s when they will change the world. The stories of David, Clara, and George are good lessons that we should be learning from. Professionals may be educated, but they don’t seem to know what they are talking about. Teenagers are capable of achieving adult goals and raise their expectations. It’s been done in the past and it’s even going on today.

dreams are there to make your life a little more intersting than you could make them yourself...
so i went to bed, and had the weirdest dream ever
i was shopping at wal-mart, and before this justin timberlake had just randomly dissappeared, and no one really cared, and we all forgot...
so, im at wal-mart
and i see this door, and it goes to the basement, and i head downstairs...
thereis a hallway with two doors in it, i skipi the first, and open the second one...
when i open it, this other celebrity, that i didn't know opens it up(i dont know how i knew he was famous)...but behind him was a gigantic pool party! there were tons of people and it was like a beach party...
then i shut that door, and opened the one i skipped before...and it was a boring little room, and justin timberlake was in it...
hes like "i havent seen someone in two years!! can i sing to you?"
so he sang sexy back to me, and now that i write th is i kind of giggle...than i asked him if he wanted to got o the pool party next door
we went tot he pool m party, and as soon as we walked in we all got color coordinated inner-tubes... and we all sang this song with water ballet/coreography...i dont remeber the song, but we were all singing, and then i had to leave
i was like" igotta go"
and they said "you can't leave were just having fun"
"We'll i have to finish my wal-mart shopping"
And they aere all like "awwww"
Then i said that i'd be back to morrow, and then i left...
so maybe tomorrow, i'll have a sequal dream...but probably not....
as usual (DONT MIND THE TYPOS)

somtimes you sit there and wonder...why on earth am i doing this...
i was out gardening today...it sounds normal...but with me, you can always guess that there's more to the story...
i always thought that gardeners were tree hugging freaks who had nothing to do with themselves but plants some green and watch them grow... well tonight i realized something...
i was out there looking at my garden, and i noticed weeds...not just few, not a just a handful...EVERYWHERE!!!...they were on the walkway, by al the plants...it would take at least a good hour or two to de-weed this whole dirt-patch...well, not only was the work seemingly impossible, but the conditions made it even more unbearable...
it was later in the afternoon, and guess who decided to show up at my little gardening charade??...yeah... every mosquito in wood county... i could move my hand in the air, and hit abaout four or five in one quick swoop they were so thick...going up my nose...in my shirt sleeves...i could feel them hitting me, and sucking my blood...i'm surprised i dont have the west nile virus...
so i decided to outsmart them with bug spray...
yeah good idea...
the bug spray smelt like a trashcan full of rotton dirty diapers...and i regret even thinking about using it...
no, bad idea...
i would be able to bear the smell if it actually worked, but the mosquitos were just as bad, so now, i smelt, with a swarm of mosquitos around me, all covered in dirt...picking weeds...
what was i thinking...
i am getting eaten alive, all for some weeds...some WEEDS!!!
then it hit me( not the hungry pack of mosquitos...its a metaphor) the reason i will do this, is to see my plants succeed...i planted them from seeds, and i am here watching them grow, and i am in charge of weather they grow or die...
i give them water, and i pull off the dead parts, and i de-weed their surroundings to make their environment more growable...
if i neglect them, they will die...if i dont weed them, their roots will get root bound b ecuase of all the weed roots, if i don't water them they dry up...their sucess depends on me...
and the hardest thing about that fact is that they can't tell me what they need, it's up to me to decide how much to water them, or how much to fluff their dirt, or weed their areas...
so now when i see people being anal gardeners, i know its just love...
some people have thir cats, or children, or sports cars, or whatever...but me...
i have my garden, my beautiful garden
i will go through any trouble to do what it takes to see all my plants grow into the best they can be, in a way they are like my little children...only they don't sass back...
i can'twait to see the fruits of my hard work(literally)...becuase i know that it will all that hard work will go towards my goal...the jucy fruit, and vegetables...yumm
i will really miss them when the winter comes...they will all be dead, and the harvest of my hard work, eaten
i found this verse...and i thought it quite funny because it is about fruit
Strengthen me with raisins,
refresh me with apples,
for I am faint with love
Song of Solomon 2:5
teehee...faint with love of my garden
this is how i do not want my garden to be(althogh it is somewhat metaphorical)
The vine is dried up
and the fig tree is withered;
the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree—
all the trees of the field—are dried up.
Surely the joy of mankind
is withered away.
Joel 1:12
well if your ever doing somthing and you just don't know why you torture yourself to get it done, just pause and ask yourself, why , how is this benifittin the poeple around me or myself...is this making me a better person and helping grow and develop my faith, or is it a hiderance to my charachter...
i decided gardening was my little new hobby(well have to lookinto winter gardening)...
What yours?
you should post your little side hobbys...
